“When are you guys finally getting married?” That’s a favorite opening line for family and friends, lately. Tom, my significant other, and I have been together a long time now. We became engaged shortly after meeting – both of us were very sure of the relationship and having the ‘ring’ to prove we were serious, just seemed natural. Over time, folks began to give us that squinty-eyed look that said they were suspicious of this living together thing – without the benefit of ‘marriage’ (you know who you are!) The squintiest looks (no, that’s not a word, I made it up) come from folks over 50. Oh Shut Up About Women Not Being Represented in the Fortune 500...

A recent Forbes magazine article titled Disappointing Statistics, Positive Outlook has me seeing red. My good friend and often mentor, Bruce Peters, sent it to me. He knows I like to follow the current reporting on women’s business issues. The article starts, “As we move toward the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day (March 8), it is clear that the world of business is being transformed by women, but the gender makeup of business leadership has barely changed.” Once again, the focus is on the Fortune 500 – companies that are in the public eye, like PepsiCo. Summer Nights

Back in my teen years we lived in a small house near a western suburb of Rochester, NY. I didn’t realize how small the house was until I’d grown up and moved away. No, seriously. It wasn’t just the distorted memory of youth. By today’s standards, our house really was tiny. There was a tiny front hall, a tiny (really tiny) living room, a tiny dining room, a tiny kitchen, and three tiny bedrooms upstairs. And a huge bathroom.
