Finding Your Path in the Business World...

Nov 10, 2011 by

“I see you exploring,” my friend said about my business ventures.  “You’re doing a good job.” That was nice to hear.  Sometimes, I feel like a kid playing at being an adult without taking on any real responsibility or getting any real results. I started this experiment in entrepreneurship with one idea; an idea that seemed to expand as I asked people for advice and then change as opportunities came along.  I got advice from creative, knowledgeable people who had started businesses and knew what they were doing.  I wholeheartedly acknowledge that I would not have known where to start without them.  However, if I had to do it again, with everything I know now, I would change a few things. 1. For one, I wouldn’t spend so much money up front. I wouldn’t...

Dancing With The Stars ~ Halloween...

Nov 5, 2011 by

Once again girlfriends, if you weren’t watching Dancing With The Stars you missed a strange week. We’re down to 6 pairs The dancers were all in Halloween themed costumes, but some of the music just didn’t match the outfit or the dance. As you can see, I’m now considering myself an expert My favorite JR Martinez did a great tango, his style is so smooth. Judges weren’t crazy about it-said it was his own fault; he has been doing so well that they expect more from him. Ricki Lake blathered on about a rib injury then did a very energetic Paso. I know, I know. She’s good…blahblahblah. Still don’t like her. Nancy Grace looked like something out of a Tim Burton version of Willy Wonka. I wish I could explain what she was supposed...

Have Food, Will Travel

Nov 4, 2011 by

You know how you can do something for a long time- we’re talking decades here – and never really look at the behavior and recognize it for what it is? I finally realized I am Food Transporter. I’ve been packing up food and driving it to other places where I prepare it or share it or demonstrate it since I was in my teens. In high school I took whole meals: vast quantities of chili and cornbread, or chicken casseroles and dessert to my boyfriend’s home where his siblings would greet me with delight. His mother’s cooking was both uninspired and unknowledgeable: she once boiled a prime cut of beef until it truly resembled leather.  As an adult, I realized she might not have really appreciated my feeding her family, since they raved about...

The Permissible Personality

Nov 2, 2011 by

The house has been taken over by a tiny canine visitor, the chickens are molting and looking ridiculous, and an adorable, squealing baby is running around the house. Snowball the Cat is not pleased.  Not pleased at all. Wait!  This post is supposed to be about starting a writing business and here I am writing about my home life.  Isn’t it irrelevant?  Shouldn’t I screen out these fascinating tidbits about my personal life? Therein lies the question, doesn’t it?  When I worked for the big corporation, I sought to find ways to express my slightly oddball personality without clashing too much with the official Corporate Persona.  Coworkers who had become friends would talk about leaving their personalities in their cars every morning in order to fit in and gain respect.  We’ve all seen the...
