Yes, Virginia, There is Skiing In Indiana...

Jan 16, 2012 by

2011 was the year of going back to basics for me. I went back to tap dancing, back to tech marketing and back to downhill skiing. I gave up downhill skiing 16 years ago when I got married. My husband didn’t ski so I took up spectator college basketball – college basketball is one of his passions as he got a full-ride scholarship to play college basketball and later, he became a radio sportscaster doing play-by-play college basketball – he didn’t ask me to give it up but I wanted us to be able to do something together. Of course, that was early in our marriage. I was just a kid then. Ha Ha. A few months ago, I decided I missed skiing too much and decided I wanted to get back into it....

Why I like Baseball Not Football...

Sep 21, 2011 by

First of all, I’m not a sports gal at all. I like the Olympics but I’m pretty selective in what I watch. I do watch gymnastics, skiing, snowboarding, some of the races (winter or summer), and I love figure skating. I used to follow diving because a neighbor’s son was a diver – he missed being on the Olympic team by just a tenth of a point, or something. It was very tense and…ultimately, disappointing. Also, I have to admit that among my enormous family (about 80 and still counting, when we have family get togethers) I am an outsider because I don’t like football. It Was All About The Pancakes

May 3, 2011 by

I registered for a 5 mile race with my friends Laurie and Tara.  We agreed to meet at the start around 7:15 AM, do the five miles and then go out for pancakes after. This particular race was the first of a three race series to benefit The Ohio Canal Corridor (aka The Towpath).  For each race you run, you get a very nice tech running shirt to commemorate the day.  Participation in all three races gets you a snazzy bonus shirt. Laurie arrived at the start shortly before I did.  The race was to begin at 8AM, but the roads leading to the start were closing at 7:30.   Laurie sent Tara a text message to tell her where we were parked and then we sat in my car waiting for her to arrive,...

Row Row Row Your Boat .. To A Healthier You...

Feb 10, 2011 by

My 5 foot ten inch frame has always seemed more naturally built for basketball, yoga or cross country running but I found a sport 30 years after those dreadful high school phys ed classes that is absolutely perfect for me at this point in  my life. Ladies…I am keeping my day job but  the sport of  rowing  is one which has grabbed me by surprise and has triggered a new view on “health”. I made a decision that it was “time”  to reinvent my life, including health, so I could sustain both weight management and fun!  In essence, I had to re-program how I saw health fitting into my life. Was it just the desire to loose weight and get in my “skinny jeans”?  Not really, but that was a start. Approaching 50 years...
