It’s Raining Men
Happy Father's Day!
It’s Father’s Day , the time of year when we celebrate our Dads. Saw a card in the store the other day, Said something like…”Want to know why Father’s Day is in June? A bunch of dads were sitting around about a month after Mother’s Day and said Hey! What about us!!”
Hallmark outsells Mothers Day cards 9:1 over Fathers Day. According to all the ads, every man alive wants a big screen TV or power tools (OK, a few fashion conscious men want golf shirts and madras shorts) If you believe Madison Ave, every man will be grilling something this coming Sunday, usually huge hunks of beef. Seems a bit limited and stereotypical to me.
Fathers should be every bit as celebrated as Moms!
I’m lucky to still have my Dad. He’s an incredibly vital guy, President of the New England chapter of AUSA, heavily involved in veterans benefits AND the care and support of the young soldiers returning from war today. As a decorated veteran obviously a cause close to his heart. He’s also serving to protect the environment on the Conservation Committee in his seaside town here on the South Shore of Massachusetts. He’s as busy now as he was prior to retirement. He’s funny, ascerbic, a sports fan and a gentleman!
My brother Ted is the dad of two young boys, writes a smart and funny blog about fatherhood. I laugh when I read how the boys are a constantly changing joy and adventure.
Richard and Harry are my two great brothers in law, how they put up with my sisters is still a mystery to me! They are great dads- and wonderful men. They have been there for me thru good times and awful, make me laugh and I always know they have my back.
To these wonderful men I say Happy Fathers Day, I haven’t picked out any power tools yet…but I have my eye on some sharp madras shorts!
